For the tenth consecutive summer, Miami Girls Rock Camp (MGRC) is empowering girls and non-binary youth by providing them with the tools to boost self-esteem, foster community, and express creativity through music and performance. Since its inception in 2015, this transformative program has culminated in a concert showcasing the talents and hard work of its campers.
On Saturday, August 3rd, MGRC will host its highly anticipated Finale Showcase at Magic 13 Brewing. This lively outdoor event will feature performances by ten brand-new camper bands, culminating in a dance party led by DJ Angel Boi. The showcase is the grand finale of a week-long camp where participants receive instrument instruction, engage in songwriting and band practice, and enjoy workshops and live performances by visiting artists and DJs.
Heather Burdick, co-founder and director of MGRC, describes the Finale Showcase as a beloved community event. "The finale has become a yearly feel-good event for community members who support the mission and who want to support young women and non-binary youth in their moment in the spotlight. Attendees have shared how moving it is to witness young people, specifically those historically more marginalized by the music industry, take the stage with such free self-expression and joy. The Finale Showcase is a chance for the community to celebrate them reclaiming space with their fully expressed selves, and the music they have created together.”
