Psychic TV at Look Alive festival during Miami Art Week.

Friday December 2nd Psychic Tv brings their musical performance art to Churchill's for the Look Alive festival during Miami Art Week.

Forming in 1981 after the breakup of Throbbing Gristle, Genesis P-Orridge and Peter Christopherson formed the band Psychic Tv, an experimental music and video project which has taken on many metamorphoses throughout the years. From industrial to psychedelic acid house and more.

The band has over 70 albums under their belt to date. 20 of these came out of the 80’s stemming from a promotional stunt to release an album on the 23rd of each month for 23 months in 1986. The band managed to release 14 albums in 18 months, getting them into the Guinness Book of World Records beating Elvis Presley. 1986 also brought the band their first UK hit on the pop chart with “Godstar” which is also one of my personal favorites.

As the 80s were coming to a close, P-Orridge found himself submerged in the rave club scene in the UK and took a liking to the Chicago House sound of Frankie Knuckles and the word “acid” on one of the records. As he became inspired and started experimenting with this new psychedelic sound, he deemed the British variation “acid house.”

The band also had recent success with their kickstarter for “A Message From The Temple” by Unclean Pictures. It is a documentary about Thee Temple ov Psychick Youth (1981-1991). The documentary is described as an “anti-cult” devoted to transgression in art.

Fast forwarding to this year, the psych rock band just also released a new album Alienist this past September. The album is four tracks long; with two originals and two covers clocking in at 34 minutes. This album brings no disappointments, it’s both a celebration of the past and present, fusing their music over the last 35 years and also pays homage to 60’s psychedelic rock n roll. The band also just re-released the first studio album, Force the Hand of Chance earlier this year. It is the first time this album will be available on vinyl in over 25 years.

Check out Psychic Tv Friday December 2nd at Churchill’s Pub for the Look Alive Festival, also featuring acts Destruction Unit, Horoscope, Temple of Bon Matin, Collapsing Scenery, Drowning The Virgin Silence & Other Body. Doors open at 8pm.
