Channeling his Brazilian roots, Rafael's musical venture, Late Again, seamlessly fuses indie, electronic, and dream pop sounds. Through introspective lyrics, Late Again delves into themes of identity and the eternal quest for a place of belonging.

As a multimedia artist, Rafael's collaborative journey with diverse talents, inspired by the likes of Mac Demarco and Ryuichi Sakamoto, shapes the distinct sound of Late Again. Embracing ambiguity and cultural contrasts, the project effortlessly navigates between the realms of pop and alternative, embodying a narrative of self-exploration and the pursuit of a genuine sense of resonance and interconnectedness. In his newest single, “Caterpillars,” Late Again explores the subtle ways in which we unknowingly become part of the ever-evolving change surrounding us.

Late Again's latest track, "Caterpillars," was born from the unlikeliest of places: construction noise! After two years of living next to a construction project for a new skyscraper, Late Again turned the disruption into inspiration. According to Late Again, the song's pounding beat, derived from a recording of a pile driver, reflects the chaos of gentrification, a theme explored in the lyrics.

"Caterpillars" is a psychedelic trip-hop odyssey, merging hypnotic rhythms with a mesmerizing melody. The unexpected foundation – a pounding construction beat – creates a sonic collision of aggression and beauty, a captivating soundscape that explores two worlds colliding.

With a fascinatingly cinematic music video that draws you in with its dynamic framing, striking contrast, and vibrant color grading, "Caterpillars" establishes a powerful visual presence from the start and maintains it throughout. The gritty yet charming scenes depicting the rather mundane operations of a bowling alley exude a gritty crime drama ambiance that beautifully contrasts with the groovy, sitar-infused beat of the track. The overall vibe is simultaneously oppressive and playful, akin to experiencing a surreal blend of “The Warriors” and “The Big Lebowski” in a fever dream, one that grows into magical realism as the entire place crumbles to dust and rubble while the song grows ever more ethereal and beautiful.

No doubt, "Caterpillars" is one of the best-looking and most entertaining music videos I’ve seen all year, and it was brought to life through a collaborative effort between Landia (production), Evil Twin (audio), Marla (color grading), and Globetrotters (VFX). Directed by emerging film directors Gui Bohn and Nina Torres, this ambitious production was made possible by the enduring friendship and dedication of all parties involved, culminating in over a year of passionate work, check it out!
