“The first verse popped into my head and then I just started writing. i started taking the song too seriously and so the first chorus I came up with didn’t really work. So I walked away from the song for a few days and came back with a more playful approach, kinda started goofing off and wrote the techno cowgirl chorus.” You'd expect hints of industrial in the musical blend that Doll Machine's proposal is composed of, and perhaps in time that will come through but for the time being her latest single "Techno Cowgirl" serves as a perfect introductory piece to her electro/synth Pop vibe. Doll has obvious roots in electronic and pop music, but she also cites influences from Jazz, Hip-Hop, and even Punk. No doubt this is a huge influence on the catchy-yet-avant-garde sound that she brings to the table.
In spite of only having three releases listed across streaming platforms, she's collaborated before with house legend DJ Robbie Rivera and even French Electronic music trio Télépopmusik. Doll machine is currently working on a collab with Grammy-winning artist, Really Doe. But what exactly is "Techno Cowgirl?" well, without spoiling the themes too much, the song is a pretty catchy and dynamic experience that seems tailored specifically for the dancefloor in mind, taking elements from techno music of course, from the deep rumbling beat to the inclusion of mildly distorted horns that almost hint at Electro swing revival, while many of the glassy backing synth elements are seemingly rooted in New Wave and 80s synth pop -these elements are one of the common thread uniting this track with the previous two releases by Doll Machine. Doll's vocal performance is exuberant and seductive, as it befits the song, but she also displays quite a a lot of potency that caught me a bit off-guard. She belts out some pretty sweet high notes during certain parts of the Chorus for great effect, giving the song a very robust and complex soundscape overall even beyond the understated complexities already present in the musical composition alone.
